Firm Director receives first DLG employee excellence award
As the Deuterman Law Group celebrated its sixth anniversary, firm founders Dan and Dawne Deuterman honored a long-term employee for her commitment, loyalty and hard work on behalf of the company. Firm administrator Peggy Walters is the recipient of the Deuterman Law Group’s first-ever Employee Excellence Award.
“Over the six years that the firm has been in business, we have never given an award of excellence to any employee,” President Dan Deuterman said. “However, we were inspired to give the first DLG Award of Excellence to our firm administrator, Peggy Walters, who helped us start the firm, because she truly exemplifies everything that makes our firm so uniquely awesome: professionalism, customer service, expertise, and an unflagging spirit of positivity. Peggy is like a member of our family. We love her dearly.”
Peggy is one of the firm’s original employees. She has proven her loyalty and commitment to DLG over and over again, beginning in 2003 when she quit her job with another law firm to help Dan and Dawne set up their practice.
As firm administrator, Peggy is responsible for supervising and training staff and monitoring the firm’s progress and productivity. Over the years, Peggy has never let a job description limit her work. A trained paralegal, Peggy has worked directly with clients on their cases. She also helps create the firm’s client customer service expectations and internal processes and systems. She manages and trains the firm’s paralegal staff. She’s even answered the telephones and cleaned up the office.
“We honestly would not be where we are today without Peggy. I would work for her in a heartbeat,” said Dawne Deuterman, who is the firm’s chief financial officer. “It’s only fitting that Peggy would get this type of award. The woman never has a bad day. She works probably as much as Dan and I. She has a better attitude than any person in this entire firm. She’s always even-keeled about things. She’s very aware of everyone’s performance. She’s always finding ways to uplift. She brings a lot of recognition to everyone but herself.”
That Peggy was surprised to receive the Employee Excellence award is an understatement. At the anniversary celebration, Dan and Dawne asked Peggy to join them at the front of the room. But she had no inkling why they were singling her out.
“I had absolutely no idea because I always think I’m going to be in the know of these things,” said Peggy, part of whose job is employee recognition. “I am very blessed to work for a firm that recognizes and appreciates everyone’s contribution to the firm’s success. I have received tremendous support from both Dan and Dawne.”
Beyond the recognition, Dawne and Dan wanted to give Peggy a special gift to acknowledge their thanks and appreciation for her years of hard work, loyalty and the time she commits to the law firm. Their gift was a professional house cleaner – a perfect gift for a time-strapped working mother of two who is also a “neat freak.”
“What they really gave me was just time, time back with my family,” said Peggy, who now gets to reclaim her weekends rather than spending them cleaning house.
